Liberal Democrats call for free bus passes for young carers

At a County Council budgetary meeting, the Conservatives refused to back Liberal Democrat calls for all young carers in Gloucestershire to receive free travel passes to allow them to use the county’s busses for free.

County Councillor Ben Evans said “Young carers can themselves be vulnerable and are often under a huge amount of emotional stress and, as is often the case, financial strain too. The use of a free pass could really help them cope, and I’m proud that the Liberal Democrats put vulnerable children first.”

Giving young carers the chance to travel on busses for free would be a lifeline for young carers and their families. The Liberal Democrats will continue to fight for more support for young people and for our young carers, who need our support more than ever.

The Conservatives also refused to invest £1 million of desperately needed funding in our county’s busses in order to make bus networks fit for purpose.
