How much of your money is the government wasting?

Since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic, Conservative supporters have secured at least £180 million worth of contracts to supply the government with PPE. Some 12 contracts handed out to three firms with links to the Conservative Party members or donors were identified by an investigation published in the Sunday Times, many of which without proper scrutiny or due diligence.

Meanwhile private sector consultants are being paid £7,000 a day to help run the Government's failing Test and Trace programme which is reaching only 6 out of 10 of contacts of people who tested positive for coronavirus.

The government is wasting your money on mates deals and systems not fit for purpose, as you can see below:

Please input your pre-tax income in pounds into the box.

How much of your money was wasted on questionable PPE contracts to friends of the government:

How much of your money was wasted on the failed Test and Trace system:

To put that in context, schools only get £11.50 a week for each child who is eligible for free school meals. Added up across the country, that's millions of pounds that could have gone to help vulnerable people in our community.

We are calling for a full investigation to be carried out on the handling of this crisis and how so much money has been wasted.

How we calculated those sums:

This is based on your income tax only. Based on how much of that tax on average contributed to questionable PPE contracts to friends of the government (up to £17billion total) and the failed Test and Trace system (£12billion total). The calculation of how much this is as a proportion of government income is performed using the 2019 figure for total yearly government spending (the most up to date figure available, £668.4billion).
