Conservatives block moves to make Council more transparent

A motion put forward at a recent Tewkesbury Borough Council meeting to improve the transparency and openness of Council proceedings was rejected out of hand by the Conservative Party.

Liberal Democrats raised concerns at a recent Council meeting that the Conservative-run administration was hiding from critics by not allowing residents to ask follow-up questions in public meetings - allowing the Conservative administration to avoid being scrutinised.

"The Conservative's fear of public questions and the refusal to allow more scrutiny of their actions says far more than all the questions raised by local residents put together" said Cllr Stanley, Lib Dem Borough Councillor for Cleeve West.

"As the Conservatives are dismissing the public's concerns out of hand, the Liberal Democrats will continue to be the voice of local people."
