Cllr Cheryl Agg backs project to protect our countryside

LandWise is Gloucestershire’s Brownfield Land Survey Project as part of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), which aims to protect our countryside and green spaces from unnecessary development. 

The project allows people to report brownfield sites to help with keeping local planning authorities' records brownfield sites up-to-date. According to CPRE, nearly 40% of local planning authorities do not have recent records, and 1 in 10 have not updated their records in over five years.

Cllr Cheryl Agg represents the Winchcombe and Woodmancote county division, which sits in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding National Beauty (AONB). Cheryl shares the concerns of local residents over planned development in the area. She said: 

“The pressure is growing for more development across our beautiful area - we understand that housing targets must be met, but this should not come at the detriment of green spaces and the wonderful countryside. As a representative for the Cotswolds National Landscape, the LandWise project is exactly what we need, so I am encouraging people to use this resource to protect our landscapes.”

The purpose of the project is to:

• Campaign to bring neglected land back into productive use
• Champion sustainable development where infrastructure already exists
• Empower communities with greater confidence, knowledge, and a stronger voice in planning and policy
• Help reduce pressure on Gloucestershire’s countryside and green spaces
