Raising the flags for Armed Forces Day

Ahead of Armed Forces Day on the 27 June, Tewkesbury Borough Council raised the flags today to show appreciation for the dedication, courage, and sacrifice of our Armed Forces community. 

Tewkesbury Borough Mayor, Cllr George Porter, joined the ceremony alongside staff and councillors from Tewkesbury Borough Council. 

Cllr Sarah Hands is the Champion of the Armed Forces Covenant for Gloucestershire County Council, and was thrilled to see the Borough Council raising the flags. Her work involves ensuring military personnel, past, present and future, are treated fairly and face no disadvantage when accessing public or commercial services by providing support for integrating military families into our communities, housing, employment, among other things.

Sarah said: 

"I've really enjoyed the challenge of being Gloucestershire County Council Armed Forces Champion for the last year. I'm lucky enough to chair a great group of people and work with people and businesses across the country to ensure our armed forces community feels safe, represented and valued. Keep an eye on my page over the next couple of months for some exciting new initiatives."
