The Medieval Festival returns

Tewkesbury is steeped in history, including as the original site of the 1471 Battle of Tewkesbury. The annual Medieval Festival has taken place since 1983 and is now widely regarded as the largest free medieval gathering in Europe. The festival features a huge reenactment of the Battle of Tewkesbury, with re-enactors attracted from across the world.

Over the course of the weekend, many of the participants live as a medieval army in authentic encampments. At the festival, the camps can be seen, alongside an impressive range of entertainment in accordance with the period. Story telling, music, dance and drama all feature as well as some interesting characters, as seen below! 

Cllr Richard Stanley attended this year, and he stated: 

“This is truly an experience for anybody. Tewkesbury's history and culture is rich and this festival continues to celebrate the area. As always, I extend my complete gratitude to the organisers, volunteers, re-enactors, visitors, and those who kept us safe over the weekend in the blazing heat.”
