Councillor Richard Stanley, leader of Tewkesbury Borough Council, has issued a statement addressing the devastating floods in Nepal.

"We are deeply saddened by the devastating floods and landslides that have affected communities in Nepal following the catastrophic event in the Himalayas.

Our thoughts are with everyone who has lost loved ones, homes or livelihoods, and with those who are still waiting for news of family and friends. The scale of the tragedy is deeply distressing, with rescue and recovery efforts continuing in extremely challenging circumstances.

Tewkesbury Borough is home to a large and valued Nepalese community, and we know that many residents will have close family, friends and connections in Nepal. We stand alongside our Nepalese community at this incredibly difficult time and extend our deepest sympathies to everyone affected.

Our thoughts are particularly with those who are anxiously awaiting news of loved ones, and with all those involved in the emergency response and efforts to support the affected communities."
