Lib Dem councillor supports Nepal relief efforts

The devastating floods in Nepal have seen a significant death toll and uncertainty with thousands missing. Local Lib Dem councillor, Rojina Rai, is in Nepal assisting with the relief efforts. She and her husband live in Innsworth and have been visiting family and friends over the summer before the tragedy struck this week.
Cllr Rai said:
“I have personally travelled to some of the worst-affected areas in Nepal and witnessed the devastation first-hand. I cannot fully put into words how deeply saddened and upset I was by what I saw. The situation on the ground is far worse than we could have imagined. Families have lost their homes, livelihoods and, tragically, loved ones, while many are still anxiously waiting for news of family and friends.”
Responding to a statement from Cllr Richard Stanley, leader of Tewkesbury Borough Council, Rojina said:
"At such a difficult time, knowing that Tewkesbury stands alongside Nepal and our Nepali community means more than words can express. Your message of support and solidarity provides comfort to many who are facing unimaginable circumstances. Thank you, Tewkesbury, for standing with Nepal."
Cllr Sarah Hands for Highnam division and Innsworth ward added:
“My fellow ward councillor, Rojina is currently helping with the aid effort in her home country of Nepal. I'm proud to represent a diverse community here in Innsworth, including a large Nepalese contingent both working at NATO Allied Rapid Reaction Corps at Imjin and within the community. My thoughts are with all of the families both from the UK and around the world who have been affected. The Gurkha Sunrise Cash and Carry on Kestrel Parade in Innsworth has a collection point for donations to the aid effort.”
