Tewkesbury Borough Mayor and Councillor Kashan Pervaiz successfully completed the London Marathon on April 26 2026.

As Mayor of the Borough from 2025-26, Kashan raised money for his chosen charities - The Butterfly Garden, Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (GARAS). Of his £3,500 goal, Kashan has so far raised almost £2,000, with this money dedicated to the two local charities. Cllr Pervaiz successfully finished the marathon in 04:38:15.

The Butterfly Garden is a project for people of all ages dealing with disablement of any kind, providing an educational, therapeutic and recreational scheme of support.

GARAS offers support to those seeking asylum in Gloucestershire, welcoming them when they arrive, assisting with daily struggles, supporting them if they face deportation, as well as support with adjustment to long term future if they are recognised as refugees. Both charities support vulnerable members of our society and any donations allow the continued support going forward.

Cllr Pervaiz said:

“I am thrilled to have finished the marathon in good time, but also to be raising money for two great charities. A huge thank you to anyone who has donated and to those who have shared my campaign.”
