Cllr Dr Kate Usmar visits Roadmender in action in Northway
Gloucestershire Highways are improving our roads using the Roadmender machine in Northway
After intense lobbying since before she was elected, Cllr Dr Kate Usmar is delighted to see works in progress for the notorious roads in Northway.
Highways are using a different method called microsurfacing, which seals the surface, prolonging the life of the road for many years. This prevents further water damage and is seen as a cost effective method of preventative resurfacing.
Kate said:
“Microsurfacing is new to Gloucestershire, although it’s been used around the world for decades. It’s one of the ways those lovely smooth continental roads are maintained, so I’m looking forward to seeing the finished result once everything has had time to bed in. The surface can take up to six months to reach its final appearance, so don’t panic at the scruffy state they seem to be left in!”
Residents of Northway and users of the roads know the issues locally, and it's great to see new methods being trialled here in Gloucestershire.
